In early December, Meagan and I were able to get away from the cold and craziness of the holiday’s for a week to Florida. We stayed in Marco Island which is on the west coast of the state near Ft. Myers. It was retirement central and we were probably some of the youngest people on the island but with a sunny 80 degree forecast for a week in December this was a nice way to spend it.
After a few days of relaxing by the pool and walking along the beach we decided to take a 90 mile road trip to go visit my friends Mike and Eve in Miami. On they way across the state we had to drive on Alligator Alley (interstate 75). We were on the look out for alligators but instead we saw signs for Panthers
We pulled the car over and got out to look over this bridge into a swamp because we thought for sure we saw some alligators. Meagan got a little scared and ran for her life back to the car
After we got to Miami we had a great time hanging out with Mike and Eve. Later the next day Meg and I headed out for a nice breakfast on South Beach and to take some photos.
On our way back from Miami we still had not seen an alligator so we stopped to take an air boat ride through the everglades
Sure enough we saw an alligator. It must have known Meg was looking for one because it came with in inches of her legs next to the boat
This is an alligator nest
We headed back to Marco Island for the rest of the week. We noticed that not a lot of people were swimming in the ocean so we asked this fisherman why not. He said there are so many sharks in that part of the gulf of Mexico that no one swims there. When we got back we did some research to find out that Florida is home to the most shark attacks in the US. Good thing we asked before we went swimming.
